Significance of the new iOS7 and the iPhone 5S:
- The iPhone 5S' new processor is the A7, which is better than Apple's old A6; for the obvious reason that it is newer and 7 is a bigger number than 6. Though the A7 is based off of 64 bit technology, which allows for much more logical processing than the other 32 bit processors in current smartphones.
- The 64 bit processor will not be a big deal in the short run, but this is the introduction to a movement to 64 bit processors for the near future.
- The new iOS7 is also a much needed face-lift in terms of functionality and user intuitivity. Though this is just Apple playing catch-up because the newer Android OS' have already had these "new" features in the user interface department.
Social and Ethical Implication:
- The new iPhone 5S has reintroduced fingerprint scanning, yes it has existed for a while now (Motorola Atrix). This brings of a controversial issue especially in this current political climate, where the people no longer trust their government completely (NSA, secret courts, and privacy law ambiguity).
- Though with the new iOS7 there is a lot to be said about security. As of right now their are some bugs to work out, but the ideas are there for more security. Like remote locking and remote wiping, which were introduced and is now being promoted by the NY police department.
